Order tags vs customer tags: which should drive your wholesale map?

Both order tags and customer tags can tell SyncaMap which Shopify orders are wholesale. Here is when to pick each, and how brands mix them in practice.

SyncaMap's sync rules can key off customer tag, order tag, sales channel, discount code, customer email domain, or order note. The two most common choices are customer tag and order tag. Here's how to decide.

Customer tag: the retailer is wholesale

Tag the customer once (typically 'wholesale') and every order they place counts. Cleanest when a stockist places both wholesale and DTC orders under the same account, and you want all of them to be treated as wholesale.

Order tag: this particular order is wholesale

Marketplaces like Faire, Airgoods, and Bulletin add order tags automatically (via their Shopify connectors). Point SyncaMap at the tag and each marketplace order becomes a pin. No customer setup required.

The pattern most brands land on

  • Order tag rules for marketplace channels (Faire, Airgoods, Bulletin, Abound).
  • Customer tag 'wholesale' for direct accounts you invoice yourself.
  • A sales-channel rule for anything running on Shopify B2B.
